The classic beach tree's Latin name is Fagus sylvatica, it is a large tree that makes a brilliant and hardy hedge. It has very good looking deep green or dark red glossy leaves, that die in Autumn but remain on the tree all winter, when the new leaves come in the spring it forces off the older leaves, which help to make a screen all through the winter when the tree is used for hedging. As a hedge it only needs to be cut once a year in July, if you want it to be kept very tidy all year a second cut is needed, but otherwise it is a low maintenance tree for hedging,
