The only truely evergreen Deutzia, multiradiata is unusual. This species is small in the family and like most Deutzia is from Sichuan in China. It has rough leathery leaves and is hardy but it is best planted in a sheltered part of the garden. Like the other species of Deutzia it has star hoped flowers which are white and bloom in June. it is a compact Deutzia that will not want to be much more than 150cm tall with good pruning.
The plant is tough and very hardy against frosts, liking a lightly acidic soil. If the pruning is done well with attention to detail then Deutzia like others pruned in this group give the most back of all the shrubs. The new growth that comes after pruning from the base of the plant gives a vibrant and very attractive form. The stems form long uninterrupted growth from top to bottom, making lovely arching stems that bloom incredibly at the start of Summer.
