Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' ~ big and bushy

- +

Specimens bigger than hedge plants, these plants are already 60-80cm wide and 100-125cm tall. The main thing here is their width, lightly pruned (feathered) to create a very bushy specimen shrub. It is a classic evergreen. A dense growing medium sized evergreen shrub that is rightly very popular. The leaves are glossy and vividly red when the leaves are young, turning green when mature. It will make a colourful hedge as well as a speciman plant, and it is a must have in every garden. After the fresh and lush red growth has turned mainly green, this is the time to prune Photinias, unless your plants are to be used for a hedge. If a hedge is required, then of course it needs to be sheared as much as required, but it is important not to shear Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' in the Winter.

How many should you plant?  1 plants per meter if you can be patient, 2 per meter. If you want it to be instant.

How fast do they grow?  Photinia are fast growing, cut your hedge twice a year, three cuts maximum required.

Hardiness?  Frost resistant hardy plants, the coldest frosts can damage leaves should not affect the plant itself.

Soil type?  Lightly acidic, like most plants, when planting it is best to add some multi purpose compost to help th hedge take.
