Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire'
Mountain Fire is a bushy medium sized evergreen shrub that is slow growing. The leaves begin life a vibrant red leaves, as the leaves mature they green up and finally turn dark green. The leaves have an exotic look to them, and bring all gardens to life with a lovely form. The flowers are creamy white, hanging slightly in branched panic, the flowers begin in Spring and continue through most of the season too. Pieris does require ericaceous fertiliser until it becomes mature, the leaves yellow easily and I have seen many specimens die back sadly. Pieris is hardy however when there is a very cold Winter they are likely to get frost damage, so a sheltered spot is best.
