Yew (Taxus Baccatta)
Taxus baccatta is better known as Common Yew, is very hardy, evergreen, quite fast growing and fills out in to a brilliant hedge or topiary. A classic that is probably the toughest and most reliable hedging plants. It fruits with small red berries and only has to be cut once a year in August or September. Unless you want it to be cut into a perfect topiary shape, then more attention will be needed.
How many should you plant? 3 plants per meter, but if you you buy the 10 litre pot, or larger, plant just 2 per meter.
How fast do they grow? English Yew is slow growing, cut your hedge once a year, more regularly for topiary.
Hardiness? Frost resistant hardy plants.
Soil type? Acidic, when planting it is best to add some ericaceous compost to help then take.
